The role
CCTV Operators monitor camera feeds across one or many sites, identifying incidents in real time, coordinating ground response, and producing the evidential records that follow an incident. The work is concentrated and procedural — observation, logging, communication, escalation — and licensed by the Security Industry Authority because it sits at the intersection of public safety and individual privacy.

The role suits observant, methodical workers who are composed in a crisis and disciplined about logs and procedure. It is well-suited to experienced security officers stepping into a control-room role, and to those who prefer focused indoor work to patrolling.
A typical shift
Twelve-hour shifts, day or night, typically across a control-room rota. The shift begins with a structured handover, followed by monitoring of multiple feeds (sometimes dozens), responding to s and ground requests, logging every incident in line with site procedure, escalating to police or emergency services where warranted, and producing evidence packs for incidents that need investigation. Concentration is the core demand of the role.
Requirements & expectations
- SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) Licence — mandatory and current
- Right to work in the UK and Enhanced DBS where the site requires
- Strong written English for incident logs and evidence packs
- Sustained concentration over long shifts
- Composed radio manner and clear ground-team communication
- Familiarity with major CCTV platforms (Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, Hikvision)
