Our roles Security Posted 4 weeks ago

Trained crowd-management staff at large public events — unlicensed by design, briefed in detail, and central to safe event delivery.

The role

Event Stewards manage crowds at large public events — sporting fixtures, festivals, public assemblies, ceremonial events, and concerts. The role is intentionally distinct from licensed security: stewards do not require an SIA licence because they do not intervene physically or eject. They direct, inform, support evacuation, and act as the eyes and ears of the security operation. Stewards make up the largest workforce at most major events for good reason — well-briefed stewards prevent the incidents that licensed officers would otherwise have to manage.

Who it suits

The role suits friendly, composed workers who are physically able to stand and walk for long shifts. It is well-suited to those starting out in event work, and to experienced stewards working a steady portfolio of venues. Stewarding is also a recognised route into licensed security — many SIA officers begin their careers here.

A typical shift

Six to twelve hours depending on the event. The shift begins with the worker arriving uniform-ready and taking a detailed briefing on the event, the venue, the assigned zone, the supervisor, and the evacuation plan. Crowd direction and information work runs through arrivals, with ongoing presence and observation during the event, and evacuation support at end-of-event. Logs and incident reports follow any reportable event.
